Textile Plaster Molds2013

Research Prototype
Deformed molds

A practical experiment conducted to investigate the accuracy of textile deformation molds for concrete, simulated in Kangaroo for Grasshopper. The prototype design and fabrication methodology was a review of the work conducted by Andrew Kudless in his p_wall series of works, investigating the design space, material and methodological possibilities of the system.

The materialization involved the placement of wood dowels in a closed mold frame, with a tensioned nylon fabric, draped over the mold and dowels, deformed by the weight of the plaster.
Position and height of the dowels, as well as the initial tension of the nylon fabric played a key role in the final shape of the surface.
The fabric texture was inprinted on the plaster surface, leaving an interesting mark of the process in the finished pieces.
